My Gear
Life is complicated enough as it is. Why not make it a little simpler?
I’m a minimalist at heart. I don’t like carrying a lot of things. The more you own, the more you have to maintain. My mindset is simple: buy inexpensive, let it serve its purpose for at least two years, and replace it when it breaks.
The world these days doesn’t always build things to last forever in this day in age, so we have to adapt. That doesn’t mean you don’t take care of what you have — you absolutely should. It just means you buy with the expectation that, eventually, you may need to replace it.
Of course, there are exceptions: furniture, a good bed, a good TV (I’m a guy). Things that impact your health or daily comfort. Those are worth investing in.
But overall, this is the philosophy I use to keep my finances simple.
This is the wallet I use. It’s MagSafe, and I’ve had it for about two years now. I’m really happy with it. It was super cheap and lets me only worry about my phone since everything is attached in one place. It even doubles as a stand (both landscape and portrait). With my kids, it’s taken a beating — but it still works like a dream. I don’t think I’ll need to replace it for at least another three years.I paid $20.45 for it (it wasn’t on sale when I bought it). If it lasts five years, that comes out to about $0.34 per month for peace of mind. I think that’s worth it.
Anyway, I recommend it.
These are the containers I use for meal prep. I eat once a day (OMAD), usually after 4 PM, because I like going to bed feeling somewhat full — otherwise it’s not a good night for me. Every Saturday, I fill three of these 36-ounce containers with two different meals (so six total meals for the week). During the week, I’ll cook fresh meals for my kids, and I’ll eat that fresh meal with them. When I’m on my own, the prepped meals carry me through. This system took a little upfront investment — containers and mason jars — but now it runs smoothly. It saves money, reduces impulse eating out, and makes staying disciplined much easier.
